January in Pictures

Image
In January rained a lot but we needed it. I found a workout schedule that I could stick with.
Run 3-4x per week with longer runs of 10k or more. I combine the strength days with the swim days 2x week, and commute by bike 50 miles per week. This will be my base for a while. When the weather gets a little warmer will do more long bike rides and open water swimming. Right now the water is cold, and is great for hydrotherapy, but after a while I get cramped up. I look forward to SUPing some new routes. I'm finding great inspiration running with BoMF Team Tenderloin. It gets me up early and from there I add a few more miles into the sunrise. Happy Lunar New Year!

Fundracing for Back on My Feet

This year, I'm fundracing for Back on My Feet, a nonprofit serving the homeless community. I've had the privilege of running with Team Tenderloin and meeting lots of great people that could really use some help. They are already connected with local programs and are taking that leap of faith and putting their best foot forward. Our running community is getting larger, and there are chapters in a dozen cities now! Please visit my page, donate, run with us, for us or become a partner. Anything helps!

Our next monthly fun run will be the Great Cupid Run. Though it is sold out, BoMF runners can get select discount bibs!

Goals

Image
As I get older, the passing of time becomes more pertinent. I'm still processing the transition into the New Year and some goals. I'm giving myself the whole month to be thoughtful about it. I think it's helpful for me to do the seasonal goals as well as the whole year, because it can be overwhelming. I have been breaking it down into weekly and daily, just to get going. Last year I did not really do any specific goals. This year will be a makeup year for some things I wanted to do last year but didn't. I've started keeping a private journal on the side that I try to maintain daily. It's been helpful for me to stay grounded, meditate and be more conscious of my actions. This blog is in it's 9th year, and I've grown a lot just by keeping it going.

Some of the goals that I have put down so far are:

Fitness More stretching, rolling, back yogaMore run mileage, different routesVolunteering - I found a running group that helps the homeless called Back On My Fee…

DSE Marina Green 5k

My first race of the year was at the DSE Marina Green 5k! We have a little break in the weather so it was a nice clear morning. The temps have dropped quite a bit, but once you start running it warms up. The only problem is this cold wind that makes my eyes tear up. I'm still just trying to keep a consistent base, no speedwork, so I opted for 8-minute pace. I managed to get a nice progression going and finish in 24 minutes and some change. Half-marathon is in three weeks!
